Litterbox in the news!

Chapman University’s newspaper, The Panther, has a write-up about Litterbox Magazine in its October 1 issue. Several of the editorial board are Chapman U. alumni, and we are very excited that we were asked about the magazine for this article.

You can read it in full here.

Issue 4!

I would like to invite everyone to take a look at our site.  We have a new issue up and ready for your viewing pleasure.  This month’s issue has another wide range of reading selection, especially strong in the poetry and the art.  I hope you take the time to read it and enjoy.

Thanks for being loyal Litterbox readers and followers.

Affiliate: Vestal Review

Vestal Review is a semi-annual print magazine that can also be found on the web. The magazine is dedicated to flash fiction. Here’s what their website has to say about flash fiction:

A good flash, replete with a cohesive plot, rich language and enticing imagery, is perhaps the hardest type of fiction to write. A good flash is so condensed that it borderlines poetry. A good flash engages your mind not only for the short duration of its read, but for a long time after.

The magazine is eclectic in nature, offering a wide variety of contributors and flash fiction pieces. If you’re submitting, please note they do not accept children’s stories or hard science-fiction. Otherwise, have at it.

Vestal includes a quarterly Web issue alongside its semi-annual print publication.

Writing: Query Letters

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of a great resource for query letters. As we all know, a query letter can make or break a great writer. If you write a bad one, you can kiss all hopes of getting your masterpiece published. If you write a great one, you might be seeing your name on the spine of a book in your local bookstore before you know it.

I’d like to share the site with you. It’s good for a laugh, sure, but I’ve also realized I’m learning quite a bit from it. The comments are helpful and so is the break down of the query letter by whomever this mysterious “query shark” is.

Check out the site here: http://queryshark.blogspot.com/

As my friend said about the site: “Abuse it.”

And good luck with your next query letter.

Affiliate: Weave Magazine

Weave Magazine’s website says

“Weave is a literary organization and print publication based out of Pittsburgh, PA. We seek to create a space for a cross-section of writers and artists of all walks of life to meet on the page, on the stage, and in workshop. We celebrate diversity in both the creator and their works and strive to showcase both novice and established writers and artists.”

One of the things I like most about Weave is its activity in the community. Weave and its editors host workshops, readings, and other literary events throughout the Pittsburgh area. They want to “bring poetry to the stage as a viable performance art.”

Weave is a print journal that has two issues out right now. Their website features a calendar of literary events, chapbook, book, and poetry reviews. The site is clean and well-maintained. They accept submissions of poetry, short stories, flash fiction, short plays, creative non-fiction, and visual art.

Check out Weave online at Weave Magazine, on twitter (@WeaveMagazine), and on Facebook.

If you would like to see your journal, either print or online, up on our site, please contact the editors. Thank you.

Issue 3

Happy Independence Day to our American readers!  To everyone else, we appreciate you just as much.

After some health issues with our webmaster, we are up and running fully.  Our third issue includes some fantastic stories and other pieces.  We have also reformatted for it to be easier to read, organize, and keep edited.  Poetry and recipes for their popularity have been given more individual attention.  All of our currently existing non-fiction sections were combined together to allow for a broader range and better content.

I hope you enjoy this new issue and tell your friends to give it a look as well.  Thank you for your readership.

Officially Back!

The malware is gone, the google warning is down, and we are back and in business!

Thanks for the patience everyone!

Hacking Issues Continue

It appears my last post was hasty (particularly when you consider how many typos I had in it).

For those who are afraid to check the blog, do not worry. The front index is in fact clean. The problem is buried deep in the blog, and may require me to completely rebuild the blog. This is easier than it might sound, and if I have to do that, then I will.

Remember that with the July Issue Litterbox will be going under some pretty heavy changes. We’re pretty close to have it ready to go on the coding side of things, and we’re looking forward to it! :)

Thanks for sticking with us through this malware that struck so much of the internet.
