Victorian and Steampunk Illustrations |
by Heather Dixon

[ Governor's Treehouse ]
The Victorian period is so stylized! While working on this picture I studied up on Victorian houses in San Francisco, and was amazed by the candy-colors they all had. Things like striped-tile roofs and stained glass windows. I wanted to get that bright, candy feel in this piece.

[ Queen Victoria Steampunk ]

[ Steampunk Von Trapp ]
I have a big weakness for steampunk. It's a stylization of an already stylized time period, giving it a rich, retro-thick feel of brassy browns and burgundies. Plus I love goggles.

[ The Entwine ]
Dancing and mourning were both huge societal aspects in the Victorian period, and exact opposites as well. I played with these foils in Entwined, a Victorian retelling of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses."
