Cookies and Cream Truffles
by Lacey Briley

Chocolate truffles are usually a fancy mix of chocolate, heavy cream, and liquor. These are not those kind of truffles.

1 pkg. (1 lb. 2 oz.) Oreos or Newman's Own Cookies, finely crushed
1 pkg. (8 oz.) Philadelphia Cream Cheese softened at room temperature
2 pkg. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

  • Smash the cookies to oblivion. This is easiest in a food processor but most stress relieving with a baggy and rolling pin.
  • With a fork (or a food processor) blend 3 cups of the cookie crumbs with the cream cheese until completely smooth and dark. Do your best not to eat this entire mixture before you make any truffles. It will be difficult to refrain.
  • Shape into 1-inch balls. You'll get around 60. Refrigerate until cool (or put in the freezer for 15 minutes).
  • While you're waiting for everything to cool off, melt your chocolate in a glass bowl or measuring cup. Zap in the microwave at 30 second intervals but be careful not to over melt it. Burnt chocolate smell lingers.
  • Dip the truffles in the melted chocolate; place on waxed paper-covered baking sheet. I use a combo of my fingers and two forks to dip them, but I'm no expert. Do your thing.
  • Decorate however you want! Cookie crumbs, melted chocolate, whatever! No one is going to see the decoration anyway because they are going to be blinded by chocolate lust.
  • Refrigerate until firm.
  • Hide some in the back of the fridge for yourself if you're serving them at a party or you're not going to get any. People get crazy around these things.

Editor's Note: After several personal taste tests, Newman's Own cookies make Oreos taste worse like a cardboard box coated in powdered sugar and Crisco. Do me a favor and track down the Newman's brand. If you even think of using Hydrox cookies, I will come to your house and give you a wedgie.
